Why the “after” pictures look so good

Don’t you just love before and after makeover photos? I’m a sucker for all the makeover TV shows and hair salon magazines showing ordinary people being transformed with just a new haircut (and new makeup, special lighting, and soft focus lenses, of course).

We like the ‘after’ photos because we’ve seen the ‘before’ pictures. So to start off the Studio Makeover Challenge I’m posting the before pictures of my two-car garage studio space. I already posted a few pics of family memorabilia clutter in the last blogpost. Here are a few more glimpses into my cluttered life.

Normally, I don’t mind clutter when I’m working since I’m focused on what I’m doing. But when I’m done, it’s time to clean up. It’s like taking a deep breath before launching into the next thing.

My garage-studio is also our laundry area which you must walk through from the house to get into the studio.

We made some changes to the space when we first got the house but it is still a work in progress. Next post I’ll share some of the changes we’ve already made and my first steps at de-cluttering and making-over the space.

I can’t wait to see what you’re doing with yours. For those of you following along please check out the progress for all those participating.

  1. I love seeing your studio. First, I look beyond the clutter and see the great overhead storage section you have for canvases and wish I had one too. Then I see the sections of clutter and think, “Oh, look, I have that too!” When you get done rehabbing your studio, come and do mine!

Thnaks Lynn. It’s kind of sad to post photos in public of such a messy place! My dear husband made the rack shelving for me just after we moved into the house. It’s a wonderful nook in the garage and one reason I liked it. I never knew garages could be so different from each other until we started looking for our house and I started looking at them as studio spaces. I’d love to come help with your studio! I always think it’s easier to wash someone else’s dishes!

  2. Your pictures inspired me to show mine. LOL. Thanks for the challenge!
